Author Mark La Croix has left the hustle and bustle of the city and is leading a quiet life in a cabin, deep inside the Colorado Rockies. While working on his latest novel, he makes a gruesome discovery and uncovers secrets that some would want to remain dead and buried.

Soon Mark becomes a target and is forced to run for his life. The nearest town is thirty miles away, and the only way to escape is through the forest. The people chasing him are hot on his heels, and will stop at nothing to prevent him from getting out of the wilderness alive.

*3 1/2 Roses*

Danger, grit, and some good old fashioned adrenaline.

For whatever reason, this whole book gave me the image and feel of an old 80s film, complete with stale cigarette smoke and coffee stains. Told with a tone that seemed fitting of a middle-aged detective character, everything seemed to fit that image well. It definitely isn't a negative thing, although not my favorite style of book to read, which is the main reason I rated it 3 & 1/2 roses, instead of 4 or 5.

The story is fast paced, filled with adrenaline and danger - all things I loved. The imagery was done well, and easy to picture while Mark discovered some gruesome secrets he probably would have been better off never finding out. While he ran for his life, the story jumped off the page, and pulled me in really well.

The writing style wasn't bad, and the flow was pretty good. For a quick afternoon read, this is a nail-biting adventure most fans of the genre would enjoy. I had fun with it, and thank the author for the chance to read and review.
