She walks out of the courtroom a free woman, only to find that life has a few more curve balls to throw her way. The jury may have found her not guilty, but Miranda is broke, in debt to her beloved aunt, and can't find a job because of the cloud of suspicion still swirling around her. She's not going to be able to move forward with her life until she finds out who set her up.

Buried in the evidence against her, Miranda finds a larger scheme, one involving far more money than the $37 million her boss fleeced from unsuspecting investors. Determined to uncover the truth, Miranda begins her own investigation - leading her to Macau and Belize, and into the arms of one sexy FBI agent, who may or may not prove to be trustworthy. Cozy mystery...without the cozy.

If you could imagine the best adventure mysteries for a woman, this one would definitely be on the list. With just enough action to keep it going, enough almost-sizzle to keep it frustrating, and enough adventure to keep your nails short, Chasing the Dollar is a gripping start to the trilogy of Miranda Vaughn's story.

Really though, it's not just Miranda's story. It's Jake's story too, in a way. Their story. He always seems to show back up, floating just out of her reach, but never leaving her to move on. It's infuriating, and I just want to lock them in a room together, til they get together.

The story is realistic, in a way that this genre of literature excels at. A simple question is posed: what would you do, in Miranda's shoes? Would you do anything different? When the obvious "no, I'd do that if I could" or "I wish I could do that" flutters through your mind, her story then becomes your fantasy, complete with gun fights, danger, and lots of money.

I love the fact she isn't an air-head ditz. Miranda is completely capable of taking care of herself. She's smart without being annoying, pretty without being obnoxious, and confident without being a major B. Even when she's rescued by a handsome F.B.I. agent, she isn't a complete damsel - they are simply in way over their heads, and they both need help, and end up being able to rely on each other.

Without giving away spoilers, I will say, I enjoyed their relationship. It wasn't the main focus, but let's face it, when you've got a hot guy who keeps saving your ass, fighting the desire to kiss him is difficult. Like I said - realistic, and her reality becomes our fantasy.

This is a book I would recommend to any fan of the genre, and personally, I am looking forward to the sequel. Hopefully, she is able to get back on her feet a bit more, and keep rocking the world!
