Today I'm posting a review, and it's for a book I really really really liked. Really! It is a sequel, so this post may have unintentional spoilers for those who haven't read the first book yet. If you need/want to, you can check out my post for the first book, and get all caught up.
Otherwise, here we go!
Morning Stars
(The Noctivagas Chronicle, #2)
~Released: September 17th, 2013
In the Morgensterns’ world, Marlena appears to have recovered from her madness, but Madeline is skeptical. Wilhelm’s seeming need to manage every crisis is increasingly tested by Marissa's antics and difficulties, a trusted friend's spectacular act of betrayal, and the return of Corelis. And, to make matters worse, in the shadows, a darker foe is watching… and waiting.
The twins want to be normal teenagers, but strange events and people of indeterminable intent increasingly hem in their reality. And while Madeline and Marissa wonder if they can just live normal lives, the better question is: can they even survive the lives they're living?
Jason T. Graves lives in North Carolina with his family and a menagerie of small, domestic animals. He takes his coffee black, and, when he is not conducting mysterious, mad-scientist experiments with his students, he writes mysterious and beautiful fiction.
The story line, much like the first book, is new and exciting. Filled with danger, secrets and mystery, the challenges this family seem to face keep growing with every page. The surprises that came out in this part of the story had me completely jaw-dropped, and desperately needing to know more. Every time I thought I'd cleverly figured out one of the many secrets, the rug was pulled out from under me, keeping me spinning, in the way only a great book can. By the end, the story I started reading had taken so many sharp turns, it left me feeling as though I'd been on an entire adventure in a few short hours, and was still craving more.
One of my favorite parts about this book, are all the fantastically deep characters. Every person seems to have so many layers to them, and this story slowly unwraps them all, in time. Each character is completely addicting, not only in their ever-growing importance and histories, but also in their relationships with each other. They all mix together to form a profoundly rich story, that pulls you in and begs you to be a part of it.
Of course, this book is as fantastic as it is, because of the wonderful writing. I am constantly impressed with the ability Mr. Graves has to introduce and lay out such deep plot lines, which seem to keep growing in every direction, yet keep it all wrapped up in a quick-flowing story. Flawlessly mixing humor, diverse character personalities, mysteries, action and adventure, he's created a wonderful dynamic with this intoxicating series.
Overall, I would definitely recommend this book to anyone. It isn't a stand-alone book though- reading Blood Roses first is a must, or you'll be completely lost, but this is a series every YA fan would love. It has certainly become one of my favorite series, and I can't wait to see what happens next.
*I was given an ARC ecopy of this book, from the author, to read in exchange for an honest review.
